My journey into becoming a Somatic Psychotherapist first started when I began to deepen my own exploration into contemplative practices over a decades-long period. Along this journey, I experienced firsthand the healing power of bringing our awareness to what is present and allowing our most authentic self to emerge from our conditioned patterns. While this journey can seem never-ending, and at times, filled with the shards of past trauma, I believe that within this process we have the opportunity to return more fully to ourselves and heal the wounds of the past.

Prior to pursuing graduate work in clinical counseling at Naropa University, I earned a master’s degree in education, and built an extensive career in higher-ed and corporate training development, holding both leadership and consulting roles. However, through the inner work associated with my own spiritual practices I felt called to make a change and find a way to work with others along a similar path. My education at Naropa in somatic counseling / body psychotherapy has allowed me to combine my passions for personal development with my values around the healing power of embodied self-awareness.

As a Somatic Psychotherapist, I work at the intersection of spirituality, embodiment, and mindfulness. Through the lens of somatic psychotherapy, we’ll explore how physical and emotional trauma are held within both body and mind, and work with a variety of approaches to support the nervous system, emotional regulation, and resilience. Developments within the field of neuroscience provide evidence to support the deep connection between body and mind that can be expressed in stress, anxiety, depression, immune system dysfunction, and even our relationships. 

For those deepening their own spiritual work, I offer a container for whatever arises, no matter how painful or challenging, and an anchor point to remain fully grounded in our humanness while exploring edges without spiritual by-passing. For those that experience body sensations as a part of their spiritual practice that are at times distressing or confusing, I create a safe space for somatic exploration of what some regard as the energetic wisdom of the body.

In my work with men, we cut through the layers of social conditioning that can leave us numbed out and isolated from our underlying emotions and awaken to our authentic self. In working with couples, I help to support awakening awareness to the patterns and barriers obstructing the full blossoming of a deep, supportive, and nurturing connection.
 

When not working, you might find me in the mountains skiing, hiking the trails around Boulder, or practicing the healing martial art of Qigong.
